When I got my 1st tattoo (and only so far), it was something that I knew I really wanted. When he first started, There was a little pain. Kinda like someone tapping on a fresh sun burn really fast. But after about 5 minutes, I was alright. The session went on for about 45 minutes.

Depends on what part of your body you put it. Also on your pain tolerance level. My personal experience on the lower back and spine it feels like nerve damage, pins and needles and then after a bit it goes numb. My lower back was four and a half hours straight. For me I am a pain laugh-er, yes it hurts but I laugh or I will cry, strange I know. It took about 10 minutes for my lower back to go numb and then it just felt like a slightly uncomfortable vibration on my spine. On my stomach it felt hot and sharp pain that did not get numb after a bit like my back but the stomach tattoo was an hour of work. My hip was really painful right on the bone and felt like a stinging, sharp pain it lessened as time passed but did not go numb like my back. That was only an hour of work. No matter where you get a tattoo its going to hurt to some extent and you can always ask them to stop and give you a break for a few minutes. Touch ups I have found hurt more than the original tattoo, that's just my experience so I recommend listening when they tell you to put sunscreen over it to prevent fading. Make darn sure you really want the tattoo you pick for the rest of your life because at $250 a square inch for laser removal it is not cheap and it is the most painful thing you may ever experience. Have fun good luck and choose wisely!

My daughter had her first tattoo when she was 21, on her ankle. It's a beautiful tiny butterfly, very colorful, and very small...just a "touch" of brightness on her leg, and she said it hurt like anything! She's also got a plumeria flower with the Hawaiian symbol of a sea turtle in the middle on her left back shoulder, which didn't hurt as much. I think it depends on where you get it as to how much it hurts. The 'bonier' the area, the more it hurts, the more flesh and fat there is, the less it hurts. So if you don't want a lot of pain while they're doing it, put it in a place that is more padded. The lower back, if it's a bit thicker is okay, but if you're really skinny, it will hurt, as will the ankle, etc.

I got mine a few years ago. Everyone told me it wouldn't hurt. Do not listen to that load of bull. My friends pretty much laughed at me making weird pain faces for 2 hours - in the end it was worth it, but yeah it hurts like a son of a *****. I work as a nurse also, and have no phobia of needles it really just hurts lol

My daughter had her first tattoo at 17 yrs old. She said it wasnt too bad...(she had hers done on her front hip) Usually the outlining of a tattoo hurts more than the coloring in.

It feels like someone is taking a sewing needle or a safety pin needle and poking you with it really fast. Mine didnt reallly hurt too much except when he start going under my arm, but of course it all depends on where you going to get it done. Places like your back, ankle, forearm, or around your private areas are going to hurt. Places with alot of meat on them usually do not hurt bad at all.

i was like 15 and i was gonna get one. im not even gonna say what i wanted it to say bcuz its stupid and i would have regreted it. any ways when my frends aunt was gonna start it, the needle popped out of the thing and they couldn't fix it. i look back and im like "damn, its a good thing that happend cuz i would've had some stupid s*hit written on my back" so now all i have is a lil black mark where she was barely gonna start the tattoo. but its barely noticable. to answer your question, i dont think it would've hurted for me cuz i can take huge ammounts of pain (not saying its unbarably painful) but everyone is diff so it may or may not be as bad as you think.

some parts of the body are more painful than others, most of the artists will ask you when they start if you can tolerate the pain you feel right away because if you can you should be alright that's when it hurts the most, as it goes along the body handles it better. it's not that bad :)
