If there is a group home for youth near you they usually accept them. The kids there range from 10-17 and never got to be a kid. They are usually abused, sexually abused, runaways or both, neglected or raised in unsuitable homes. They love to hold onto a cuddly stuffed animal and some of the younger ones finally get to play dolls where they used to have to be mother to younger siblings and/or mate to dad or mom's boyfriend. They really appreciate the donation. Good for you!

Charity shops are a good bet, though they don't always want soft toys as they can be hard to sell. Animal shelters often use soft toys to comfort neglected animals so maybe take some to your local RSPCA (or similar).

I sent my childhood toys to Bosnia, for the orphans out there. There are similar schemes for Belarus (think it's called Bridges to Belarus) that may be worth looking into.

A lot of police departments will take them. When officers have to transport young children because of fires or accidents or even domestic violence situations they like to hand out a stuffed animal to the child. This can help the child remain a bit more calm and less frightened in a scary situation. Have a good night!

The Toys for Tots Program sounds like the perfect choice.

Is there any shelter/missions that house families with little children in your area. Where I work I take donations to the Rescue Missions and Emergency shelters for families and children. Also could take them to Children Hospitals.

If the stuffed toys are in good shape, contact your local law enforcement agency. They use the stuffed toys to calm children that find themselves caught up in frightening situations.

Good luck,

Don't give them to a charity shop. Yes the money goes to charity but amny of the people who buy fromthe shops do so to save money so that they may have that extra holiday, big screen TV.

Donate them either to a womens refuge (teen mums, domestic violence victims etc.) or to your local hospital's children's ward.

Or a children's hospice

I would take them to your local homeless shelter or women't abuse shelter. The children there don't have very many cuddly animals.
