To love yourself would also mean that you would love others equally well, because you couldn't really love yourself for mistreating others. It's very true to say that "You will treat others in the same manner in which you treat yourself." (this applies both openly and privately). I strongly believe that it is vital to your level of happiness and enjoyment of life that you love everyone, everything, all of yourself, all of the time. Even your faults, your quirks, your failures should be loved and accepted as part of your unique and evolving person. To love is to be one with the all of everything.
=============================================
Then said Almitra, Speak to us of Love. (An abridged version of his poem)
And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said:
When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden...
...When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

There is no such thing as loving yourself too much, and there are no negatives, but too many positives to count, when you love yourself.
The only negative part comes when you let others know how much you love yourself, and coming across as too arrogant. Then, people might start to avoid you.

Everything in life is about loving your ownself. even when you are enduring some pain for someone you love, it is also because you are happy taking the pain for him/her. everything we do in life - is to make us happy.
one should love himself/ herselft a lot. otherwise life would be miserable. loving yourself does not make you arrogant. being selfish and loving yourself is two different things and one must learn to maintain the balance.
i love myself a lot - to be honest i love myself most in the world. admit it or not - so do you. i sometimes spoil myself - probably thats whay you are terming as "loving yourself too much". when i am too much stressed or upset, i go shopping, get myself some expensive dresses or accessories, dine at an expensive restaurant .. it is only to make myself feel better.
i try to love myself most when i feel that i am not being loved .. by the ones i love. in the end, its me that i could turn to for feeling better ... it is me who loves me most
