They have an appalling history of abuse of human rights and also animal rights issues, so why reward them with the games?

In reply to buttar506 ,you should really have paid more attention during your visit to China in 2004, human rights abuses are still happening, its not history its FACT! and very much in the present and the futureas well. China or Beijing it makes no difference, its the same place!

Absolutely not. They should be boycotted completely until they get their act together. We need a president that would do to them what Reagan did to the Soviet Union. Chinese people would be so much better off if their government crumbled and they were free again. We are such hypocrits to say that we will rid Iraq of its dictator while associating ourselves with the Chinese government. We are just afraid of the Big Red Dragon so we appease it and make it stronger. Not smart.

Beijing is the next host, not China. Hopefully, it will help drag the city and therefore the country into the 21 century in areas of human rights, conservation and maybe even democracy.

hosting Olympic games and abusing human rights are two different things.if that is the case the USA should not be allowed to host or participate in Olympic games as it invaded Iraq without any valid reason and killing innocent Iraqis and its own soldiers and abusing human rights of Lebanese by giving tacit support to Iran.

Have you been to China lately? Leave the history and see into the present. They are doing a lot to cop with this event in the proper manners.
