When I see a paragraph full of words like ne1, plz, gr8, ppl, cuz, dats, Y, R, U; your used for you're, there used for they're or their, etc I don't put myself through the trouble of diciphering it.

A typo or misspelling is fine, Moron-speak is not.

I suppose they are hoping that instead of deciphering it, you will just assume they are correct and award them the points.

By the way, it drives me nuts when they write like that too. It is sheer laziness and ignorance on their part.

Language has always been about invention. I challenge you to read a newspaper from the 1780's - - - you most likely would not last a minute. Have you every noticed how the letter F can sound like an S especially over a bad phone connection? Well many a time the letters are transposed on newspapers from the era in question, In America Theater was spelled Theatre until a super patriot began to annoy his friends by insisting on a revised spelling. Your examples are not Moron Speak - - - a lot of intelligent Guts say Cuz because in Hawai'i that is the way people speak - - - you can easily piss off millions by insulting how they spell - - but now I am moralizing - - - just think you should think more before venting frustration - - - there are people who think they are doing others a favor by employing short hand - - - O-K is quicker than "I m fine the world is fine etc etc."

That is a very rude statement. Chat lingo is no different than shorthand that secretaries use. Do you think they're morons? Do you think the shorthand people use to text message someone is moronic?

Anyone who chats online in chatrooms know the lingo, and it is pretty spelled out anyway.

I think you're a very ignorant person. Don't answer the questions if they bother you.

I could not agree more. Moron-speak, I love it. I'm thinking about putting a disclaimer with my questions now saying, "Answers in Moron-speak will not be read and therefore will not be chosen as best answer."

English is a living language, continually growing & changing. Whilst we may not like this new 'code', it's here & very popular with the young 'text, sms' generation.
We just have to be careful not to sound like our grumpy, old grandparents complaining about new things!

its called improvization. we are heading towards making smaller cars, smaller mobile phones. compact is the key word here. then why should we use such elaborate language and not just simplify it to our benefit. its faster to write and read. like for SCISSOR - CIZR !!!!!

PHEW!!! it took me like 4evr 2 ryt dat !!! :-)
