I've been seeking a teaching position all summer long and had heard nothing. I was offered a job this week and took it with some personal reservations...signed the papers yesterday and today I've suddenly had 3 calls for interviews...did I make the right choice in accepting?

Absolutely not. Go for those interviews! I do not know about your area where you live but this time next year I will be doing the job search for an early childhood teaching position (prek-3) and in my state of Ohio, jobs are not available. If I were you, I would take the interviews because you never know what could happen! Go after your dreams and use your heart. It will guide you in the right direction!

Good luck :)

I think that if you think that the job you accepted is right for you than you did the right thing. But if you have doubts about the job you accepted then perhaps there si nothing wrong with doing the other interviews. But I think that if you find that you like the teaching position at the other place, you should give the one you accepted time to find a different teacher. Basically its whatever place feels like the right place for you to be teaching in.

You have received some excellent advice from folks who have been there, but I think there is one more issue you need to reexamine. What are your legal obligations to uphold the contract you have already signed? In my district, at this date, it costs a significant portion of a teacher's salary to opt out of the contract. Is that part of your contract? In some states, you can lose your teaching license if you resign just before school starts. Please find out what the law says before you break your contract. On the other hand, I have known excellent administrators who want a great match between teacher and students and they would prefer that you go where you are most comfortable and they won't seek financial compensation for breaking a contract. So you can pursue the interviews, but know what your legal status is just to protect yourself.

Good luck. It is hard to find just the right job and fate has such a tendency to pour when it rains, especially after a job drought.

Do whatever you need to do to find the best job out there. If you had reservations when you signed the papers, then continue to interview to see if anything that feels more fitting works out. I just wouldn't recommend quiting this job the day before school is supposed to start, give them a little bit of time to find your replacement.

happens all the time! u waited, nothing happens. when u have something in hand, more things come rushing to you. to answer ya question - u accepted a job with some reservations (not the perfect one yet). i'll go for the other interviews (and hopefully something better there amongst them). good way to find out what's ya market value too ;-) and if no LEGAL COMPLICATIONS in rejecting the signed one, do what is appropriate.

Go for the rest of the interviews, and then rethink, and evaluate, then choose the best offer.

No one will pity or compensate you, if you make your choice wrongly, so you have every right to make the right move.

I have a HR manager join, then left in less than 1 week, the reason is, she got a better offer.... impressive isn't it... HR manager also like that...

YOU GO AHEAD AND INTERVIEW FOR ALL THE JOBS. YOU HAVE CERTAIN STANDARDS AND YOU ARE THE ONE SUPPORTING YOURSELF, SO GET THE JOB THAT YOU REALLY WANT.
JUST TELL THE OTHER JOB THAT YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR MIND, AND THANK THEM FOR THE TIME OF INTERVIEWING YOU.

It is not wrong to want the best for yourself as long as nobody or living being gets hurt or killed.
