uhmmmm , . . . . Because more often than not - males are the ones doing most of the crimes? And maybe thats why the prisions have more male offenders than females?

Perhaps, that is just your impression of the laws, also you may have a personal bias that may be affecting your perceptions.

Uhmmm,... by the way, thank you for the points --- SCORE !!!

somber_pieces: Thats depends on the crime.

Men tend to do more violent crimes, while women tend to do more dishonesty type crimes.

I have already posted some reasons for why there are more men in prisons than women, well that apply to my country anyways, in another question but in summary as I said men tend to commit the more serious crimes punishable by imprisonment, women are often seen as victims left with no choice (battered women syndrome) or are seen to be incapable of knowing right from wrong due to drugs or mental impairment etc, or their offenses are not reported in the case of domestic abuse.

There were two cases here involving married couples. In one couple the women was psychologically abused for many years until she could no longer take it and killer her husband, in the other the husband was psychologically abused until he killed his wife.

Guess who got the longer sentence. Yep, the man who killed his wife. The same crime but he served more because often women serve shorter sentences for their crime.

Women are also more likely to get community based sentences.

It could also be because our laws are passed down from a time where women were not seen as equals or not capable of committing crimes.

While homosexuality was illegal for a long period of time here, lesbianism was not.

It is also illegal for a male to have sex with anyone under the age of 16 here but only recently it was made illegal for a female to have sex with anyone under the age of 16.

Also if a female assaults a male, its assault, if a male assaults a female, its assault and battery. Guess which has the longer sentence.

So are the laws sexist? Some are, some are not.

Why is it? Well, thats slightly more difficult. The laws could be relics of our past or women could still be seen as needing protection or our help or any number of other reasons I probably cant think of.

Because the female is viewed from an perspective since time immemorial as a docile being unable to harm the opposite sex. The males in turn are viewed from a perspective as though they are the tough nuts. Hence can protect themselves. While as the fair sex is always pampered and cared for. The law is no exception it does the same.

My opinion is that maybe it goes way back to the olden day when women werent valued and only looked at like babymakers and people that belonged in the kitchen. I think that it has evened out some. Maybe in a few more year all will be balenced. It took a lot for women to get to where we are now, lol and well I wouldnt be too quick to let that go so easily.
Just a thought.
