A lot of groups sprang out since the 60's but they didn't have the same sustaining power of the ['Fab Four'] Beatles, the Stones and the Beach Boys...

There were groups like the Animals; the Kinks; Dave Clark Five; the Lovin' Spoonful; the Doors; Peter & Gordon; the Eagles; the Critters; Cream; Badge; Herman's Hermits; Gary Lewis & the Playboys; Dino, Desi & Billy; the Monkees; etc...

Besides the Beattles, Stones and the Who, I'd have to say Credence Clear Water Revival, Or the Doors, or the Kinks, or the Animals, with Eric Burton, or Fresh Cream, with Eric Clapton doing the guitar, or Jimi Hendrix, doing his magic, or maybe Joplin doing her thing, that NO WOMAN has the guts to do today, or maybe it would be Bob Dylan, or possibly even Elvis, at the end of his life. I can't pick one, but in the year 2165, someone somewhere, will ask, what got rock 'n' roll where it is today, and they will be debating over the names I've mentioned, of course keeping in mind that I wasn't allowed to talk about McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, Starr, Jagar, etc...

The Doors, although they can't, literally, hold a candle to the Rolling Stones.

How 'bout Tommy James and the Shondells. They originally sang Mony Mony. Think they're from that era.
