Start packing now.. pack up all your unessential things like knick knacks, photos, books wrap extra towels and bedding around breakables to minimize the need for bubble wraps and the like. only leave out what you need to survive.
pack up all your dishes and kitchen stuff except for the essentials. I have been known to only use disposable stuff for weeks. go thru junk drawers and crap now.. you don't want to be throwing them into boxes at the last minute.
choose an area or room in your house to keep all the boxes in .. and label them with a big fat black marker what room they go in.
don't shut off utilites until you have left.. day after is fine.

The important thing with gas and electricity is to take a final meter reading on the day you move, and I think most suppliers allow you to report this to them by phone, so you can just phone them up on the day. If you're staying in the same area and you want to stay with the same suppliers you might want to notify them now for your NEW address, so that you can start getting billed by them straight away (rather than whoever the current suppliers are at your new address, if these are different). However if worst comes to worst gas/electricity can be sorted out after the move - make sure you know what's happening with your phone though, since if you don't want to inherit the previous occupier's supplier, it can take a few days to get sorted.
Pack the stuff you won't need in the next two weeks, obviously! Books, CDs etc are an obvious target, anything which is purely decorative (pictures, ornaments), and any crockery or glassware you don't use on a daily basis (as this takes a lot of effort to pack).

gas and electric need as much notice as possible as they need to arrange engineers to come and take final meter readings so i would dot hat today. Start packing all the things you dont use or you wont need between now and then, then after a week or so pack a bit more then about 2/3 days before the 18th make sure everything is packed except a few sets of clothes, 1 set of cutlery each and 1 plate & bowl each. then on moving day just piut those things in a box and you're off! good luck, am jealous!!! ;-)

Oh my God - I'm moving on the 18th too!! I'm not buying your house am I??
We're going to start packing this weekend - everything we're not going to need for next couple of weeks such as books, DVDs, CDs, etc and then just leave out clothes and kitchen stuff for now.
I was making a list of people to notify last night and then I started freaking out and then I couldn't sleep. So much to do!!
Anyway, this website might come in handy. It's free of charge and they notify everyone of your change of address including banks, utility providers, catalogues, etc:

I think the Royal Mail might offer a similar service as well.
Good luck!

MAIL - get your mail redirected today. Royal Mail need a week or two's notice.
BOXES- do not put all the heavy china into the same box. Mix it up with lighter things so that any one box is no more than 15-20 kg.
Check the house for anything left - we managed to leave a lovely mirror on the wall because we just didn't see it there. When the van is unpacked, be sure that they have emptied the van completely!

I would start packing now. Start taking stuff you don't want to the charity shops or to the bin. A good one is the women's refuge, as they need all sorts of household objects clothes and toys. The local council will advice you.
Pack ornaments and anything you don't need, and label the boxes. The advice to tell the utility companies will be on the bill.
Have a good proper sort-out so you don't start in your new home with a load of tut. Be really strict!
Good luck in your home.

Start packing now as it can take ages. COntact you gas and electricity suppliers and tell them when you are moving they should be able to sort it out.
Pack things you don't use that much to start with.
