I planted 1 tomato plant for my granddaughter that lives with me and it isn't growing very well or producing fruit. A friend told me that I should have planted 2 so they could cross pollenate. Is this true? Thank you for your answers.

no Nickie you do not need to plant more than one tomato plant to harvest fruit ,as for growth you should keep it pruned back and fertilize with a tomato or vegetable fertilizer. You do not what the plant to grow to many stems this takes away nutrients for the fruit.

No, you don't need more than 1 tomato plant. How's the soil? Is it a clay soil? Good soil makes a big difference in the success of the plant. Also, proper fertilizer is important. Is the plant getting plenty of sun?

No, but they do much better when they have another tomato plant to hang out with. they show off for each other and put out more fruit. your granddaughter will love the idea.

just to add after getting a good tomatoe food and growing
the way to trim is to pinch the little tiny shoots you see sprouting from the main leaves
as they deter from fruit production
and I've never had to have 2 plants growing together

no.....one tomatoe plant by its self will grow if the proper care is taken.

Tomato plants need about 80% sun light and need good soil, mulch, water, and protection from amphids.
when you water your tomatoe be sure that you don't water when the sun is directly on the plant.

No, one should do fine. But it needs full sunlight and don't water it too much.. about every three days is good. And if you give bees access to the flowers you should especially have no problem with it producing fruit.

No one should be fine. Make sure it gets at least 6 hours of sunshine a day. Then add some lime after the first blooms show.

No. One is enough. It might not be getting sufficient sun.
