Most of them are probably hoaxes done by people. There could be some examples of naturally occuring examples due to down drafts or ball lightning perhaps. Check out wikipedia for further information in the source below

yes they are all a hoax.I've watched on tv how people make crop circles.they used very simple tools.a nice perfect wooden plank(dont know the dimensions though) and a rope thats been fitted at both ends of the plank,so you just grab the rope,and put one of your foot on the plank.

so,they just use this tool to make crop circles by bending the....stalks or rice plant or whatever is in the field flat.but of course,before doing that they gotta calculate the area to cover and the time taken,they dont want to be spotted.pretty neat huh.

Some of them were hoaxes. Some of them were natural. They are nautraly created differently depending on the landscape of the area.

To keep it simple, most are hoax. May be a handful are naturally occuring.
