a violent game is simply that, a GAME! Its the parents responsibility to ensure that there children know the difference between that and reality, to know where the cut off point is and to govern what their kids see/play and dont see/play.
I wont let me kid (aged 4) even watch me play GTA, but when they eventually do I will make it clear that what happens in the game is just that, and that it doesnt get taken out of that arena. If it is noticeable that this is not adhered to then simple, the game is taken away.
It helps when parents have interaction with their kids. Often games are bought as a way for parents to put children out of sight and they have no idea what goes on or what affect they have. this neglect is where the trouble stems from.

Why would anyone think we should make kids play violent games? That's what the RATINGS are for! Obviously "M for Mature" isn't meant for a 9 year old to play. It's no different than movies. All this "controversy" is just idiot senators trying to find things to ***** and grandstand about rather than doing any actual work to improve America.

No.
Children learn from their experiences.
Just as children learn to be racist from adult racists, they learn violence from violent games and shows.
It's especially bad because they are given a kind of sanitized violence... no blood, no guts, and dismembered body parts. They don't learn the conseqences of violence.
Any normal person would be horrified an the scene of an actual violent event... do you ever see smiling victims at the scene of a suicide bombing.
How many wars would continue if the parents of the soldiers had to go out on the battlefield and sift through the blood and body parts to retrieve their son's or daughter's remains..

Personally, I don't think so. Reason? Whether we like it or not we are affected by what we see. The more violence, the more desensitised one becomes and the more hardened one becomes.
Parents ought to monitor but in the end one gets too busy. My son tends to visit. http://www.gamerevolt.com or http://www.arcadekitty.com
Together they've got over 4000 games!
Although I've not seen all the games, the few times I've checked the games were not bad at tall. Mostly fun games.
All the doom and gory stuff is too much i think...

Yes, because that's the real world.
Not everything is pretty.
Sometimes video games make the child violent, supposedly.
But the parents should use good judgement to decide what to do.

not at all
cause its us who teches them how to live nicley in this world
so if we teach them to live with peace
that will be much better for all of us
war, hate , voilence, threat,
fighting with each other for no good reason
is useless
if we teach these things to our kids
then y to let them play and to learn voilent
its true that everything is not pretty in this world
but its upto us that how we make it pretty for ourselves
voilence is reated by human
and it can be removed by human only
so dont make your kids future animal

games are made for entertainment. the average gamer is in his or her high teens or early 20's. if people underage are getting or are allowed to play games that arent made for them, then it is their parents fault. not the game companies.
