Yes, you should get off it. I was on meds for ADD, and because of it I developed Social Anxiety Disorder.

I hate to sound like the psychologist that I am studying to be, but it is definately a good idea to stay on your medications. If you just now started taking these medications it is probably that these are just some side effects of the medications and eventually your body might adapt to the meds and you will go back to being your self but being able to concentrate. Also being an ADD survivor i know what it is like to feel like a zombie and so not like yourself while on your meds.
This is where you have to really think of what is more important to you... a good future with good grades, or being not so much like yourself for a while. It took me a while to adjust but i was able to do it. I know it is different for many people and maybe you will have a different reaction. If you are a very academically inclined person/pupil i would suggest stay on your meds while in school, but you can get off of them while out for the summer.
What you might want to consider is taking your medication in intervals... take them one day do with out them the next take them again and then skip one day and see how that works out for you.
If you feel though that nothing is working you should talk to the doctor that prescribed it to you and see if there are other ADD medications out there that are good for you. I was on ritalin and i hated it then i was adderall and that worked better for me. There are many different types of ADD meds out there you just need to find the right one for you and the right dosage is all. If your doctor refuses to look into it then you should seek a different opinion.
Now there is something else but i dont recommend it is taking antidepressants that will not interact with your current ADD meds and that take care of or aleviate your anxieties. I hate meds so i wouldn't go this route but you could bring it up with your doc. Good luck cause i know it can be a pain in the butt!

Hi, Luke!
I think it's wonderful that you are self - evaluating. My sons both have ADHD and are on medications. The nervousness is an indication that this med is not for you, or that you may not need meds anymore. Talk to your doctor about it.
My sons are being gradually decreased in meds as they get better...they are healing, and replacing the need for meds with healthierr alternatives. Dietary changes (almost no sugar, organic food, low preservatives and no caramel, red or yellow food coloring), Flax seed oil, and a multivitaminhigh in Zinc, Vitamin c and Viitamin B have all really done wonders. I am at windstarhealing.com if you have any questions.

Tell your parents and your Doctor what you feel when you are on the meds -- remember, the meds are there to help you with your symptoms, and not every med works the same in each person with ADD or ADHD. Sometimes it takes experience with another type of ADD or ADHD Med to give you the benefit of better concentration in school (and better grades) and to be able to feel comfortable (and not nervous or depressed). So stick with your meds until your next appointment, and DISCUSS your symptoms with your doctor.

Go back & talk with your Dr. or find a new one. There are lots of different meds out there for ADD... you shouldn't have to deal with these side-effects. You are only young once & you should enjoy it. Good luck!

get on a different type. My oldest son hates concerta but does well on adderall, and my youngest hate adderall and does great on concerta. They have tried others. The oldest does well with a prozac anti-depressant to go along with the adderall, and to come down at night he takes trazadone. so, you may have to check with the psych for a better opinion.

you should just do it and get good grades, but only if you are in high school......if you are in coolege then you can just stop taking the meds and tak less classes......in high school you really don't have much choice about your course load......if you EVER feel like you want to kill yourself...even for just a second...then you just need to stop taking the meds altogether.....it is not worth it.....i dropped out of high schoo my senior and got a ged and went to college.....life goes on......if the meds reaLLY BOTHER YOU....JUST DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY....JUST SAY A LITLE PRYER FOR YOURSLEF AND STAY POSITIVE....GOOD LUCK
I didn't mean to caps lick that ...sorry.

If you feel you are having problems adjusting to your medication, then contact your physician or therapist and tell them. Whatever you do, DO NOT QUIT TAKING YOUR MEDICATION until your doctor or counselor advise you to do so.
