I'm not talking about the music. Forget what it sounds like and just think about the rap culture and the metal culture.
They're almost the same when you look at them this way, aren't they?

Metal is predominantly angry white kids with a focus on death, evil and destruction.
Rap is predominantly angry black kids with a focus on partying, racism, and material pleasures.
