I'm from the U.S. and based on my visits and other things, I think that the English-speaking parts of Canada are culturally similar to the U.S. in the sense that there is more cultural variation within the U.S. than Canada's cultural "distance" from the United States' "cultural mean". Whenever I've made that observation to most Canadians, however, they disagree and seem slightly offended by it. Who knows? These are subjective judgments. It's got to be true, however, that they are two of the most culturally similar countries in the world.

I have spent many years in both (Alberta, BC, California, Arizona, New Jersey), and I have this to say: For someone from outside North America, both countries will seem to share superficial similarities, especially pronunciation, architecture, and lifestyle. But then there are some deep differences. Let me put it this way: If I wanted to have a career and be someone, I would want to be in the US. It is a country where self-gratification, ego-trips, and the pursuit of self-realization are the foremost religion, never mind the born again Christians. But if I were after a quiet and secure family life, hoping to get by without being worried sick about my loved ones every waking minute, I would prefer Canada. As it is, I've found a country which offers both at equal measure, if only under certain conditions: New Zealand.

There are similarity's, but also "vast" differences.

The "pressure" to succeed "at all costs" is not "ingrained" in the Canadian. Also, Americans are much more violent than Canadians. However, Canadians seem inept at social situations.

I am originally from USA, Florida. I moved to Minnesota 4-5 years ago. I am amazed when I go back to my home town in FLA , the cultural differences between MN & the "south". I have noticed that the people in the "North" don't have as much emotion, (I'm not sure if this is strictly an "Ice-landic"/"Norwegion" characteristic?)

(If you think about it , if you moved as far north as I have in Europe, you would be travelling from Italy to Russia. There are MANY differences in culture in these 2 regions.)

Go watch the movie "Fargo" and compare it to an old episode of "Miami Vice". Weather ALONE can change the way people act & re-act! (lol)

i'm a canuck but have lived in florida for the last 5 years.

the two countries are similar yet so different, here are my specific examples as you requested

1) education system is much better in canada. education has greater value there.
2) politics are not filled with as many games as the us
3) canada tends to think long and hard when getting involved in international conflicts...canada is known to be much more popular internationally
4) canada embraces multiculturalism much much more than the us... there is greater tolerance for interracial relationships, you almost expect to see it now
5) canada is more progressive regarding gay rights...we understand that not all differences are to be hated and feared of
6) canada places less emphasis on sports than the us
7) things are "bigger" in the US... malls, grocery stores, schools, stadiums...maybe due to more competition???

these are just some of my observances. hope this answer helps!

Canadian bacon in the USA is a joke. We do not have such a thing as "Canadian Bacon" here and it sure as hell would not be some low grade crappy restaurant Bologna sausage crap. The only people that seem to think that we are the same as the USA are the friggin Conservatives( but they are not really Canadian conservative but the Alberta disciples of the radical Christian right wing Pat Robertson, and they are about to learn what politics is about from the Frogs

With the exception of Quebec, the cultures are identical across the border. Read Joel Garreau's "The Nine Nations of North America"

okay nicely i ought to communicate for the Western Canadians the following. first of all we do not communicate like you do in any respect we are saying eh! at the same time as you ought to assert huh? or yall. And sure it ought to get extremely chilly out the following contained in the prairies yet in case you stay in Vancouver or on the eastern fringe of Canada that's not virtually as undesirable yet not as warm as you men ought to get. eastern Canadians do devour fish yet we devour as any commonplace American ought to devour ie: Pizza, Sandwiches, Soup, ect. also in assessment to u.s. we've governments compared to presidents and we've free clinical: waiting to have little ones for free(may be an earnings) I hate it at the same time as people say u.s. more effective constructive than Canada or vise versa. both are beautiful international places, and if you're so curious I recommend you visit any part of Canada and be conscious for your self. Neither united states is appropriate nor more effective constructive. each and each and every united states has it flairs and that i whiched people ought to make certain that. edit: We also drink tea, In Canada we've Iced tea, and each and every time i visit Us, I continuously ignore that all ice tea is in Us is unsweetend tea. No, they are not. There is hell of difference betweeen the 2 countries. People are different in both countries.

In Canada people are more soft than Americans.

Americans think about money only.

Canadians like to enjoy their life but with families.

But both of them are big *** holes.
