No, the engine wouldn't get damaged. But like Nimbus said, it is possible to mess up the gear change mechanism. If your foot, or a foreign stationary object, were to hit your shift lever, that could throw some stuff out of alignment. That's how sport bikes start slipping out of second gear. The rider over shifts or puts to much pressure on the shift lever going from first gear all the way to second gear and wears out the shift forks. As for your question, if your bike shifts OK after a crash, then don't worry about it.

Yes, it can lead to all sorts of damage. As was mentioned, gear box damage is possible as well as engine damage. If the chain/drive shaft locks up, it can cause flex in the piston rods, bend push rods(in rod equipped engines), damage valves by throwing timing off & causing valve/piston contact. These conditions aren't common, but they do occur & can get real expensive, real fast.
