I'm American. My husband is Mexican. I really love the Mexican culture and I want to include both countries ideas into our marriage. We live in the US which can cause problems for following the Mexican culture...example: it is acceptable that a guy and a girl kiss eachother on the cheek if friends...cousins..etc. but maybe if my aunt or my friend saw him doing that..they might think he was cheating on me. I want to include both cultures (and I don't mind looking not following the norms..) but how should we decide which culture to follow and when??? Any ideas... suggestions...anything?

Keep it balanced! If something seems really, really odd to be done in the States just let him know! And also if he thinks that something is too add for his taste - since he is Mexican - he shall let you know! However, he shall be adapting more to your culture and not because, but because the both of you live in the States! If you would move to Mexico than it would be up to you to adapt more efficently. And it will help him much more, because, again, he will have to learn to live in the States, otherwise he want be happy with the whole situation! Good Luck! And don't blow it, it sounds like an interesting marriage!

I'm not an American, and I must say your question has me confused: Isn't America the proud melting pot of cultures? The one country claiming to accept people for who they are despite their origins? Let me tell you, if you guys lived in my country (New Zealand), everybody would be delighted to see you using both American and Mexican customs, and they would assume that anything they don't recognize right awaty to be some quaint manifestation of either one. If your relatives love and accept you, they must accept your spouse. Especially if they claim to be Americans.

just as long are you are comfortable with his behavior and are open and discuss what concerns you with him it should not matter but try to teach what you have learned about the Mexican culture to you family and friends for them to understand, hey we also have similarities in cultures (Mexicans & americans).
