Because, fair or not, celebrities are worshipped. Their name attracts people to movie theatres and millions are made by many people. A cop, though their job is much more important, doesn't make anyone rich by doing their job. They're unknowns in a black-and-white car.

It's the nature of the beast, so to speak.

You may as well say we pay the actor, but not the police officer. You go to the movies, buy a DVD or a CD of the movie. A lot of that money makes it back to the actor. But an officer only gets what the city or state is budgeted, unless they go bad. It's a crazy world but we choose to keep supporting the actresses and actors.

Because obviously people are willing to pay more for entertainment than protection!

Same reason hookers are more expensive than condoms, I guess!
