Stuff like that is a direct result of how you get the troops to think... you do what is called dehumanize and demonize the opponent.

The problem with a situation like this is, when it happens, everyone who's not familiar with the situation (such as being in the army, which is very stressful) automatically assumes that all soldiers = bad people who will rape and pillage everything they can.
While that might've been true hundreds of years ago (and boy was that stuff rampant if you study it), it no longer really applies, and just because one person did it, doesn't mean that every other soldier is going to do it too.
In this case, he was just a bad apple in a barrel of otherwise good apples (funny how they never talk about the good stuff being done in Iraq, or else they give it little attention when they talk about it).

Do me a favor. Join the military, go to iraq or afghanistan, drive down through the streets in a crowded market place where you don't know who is taking aim at your head in 118 degree heat every day for a year and see what its like. You don't know what when on in his head, maybe a few of his buddies were killed, doesnt balance it out, but not every one in the world can discriminate the differences in right and wrong when that kind of pressure is put on them. Its an isolated incident and should be treated as such. The media now makes it look as though all of the military is running through the streets, killing civilians and raping women as a way to get payback. We're all rational adults are we not? Use your head.

Not hardly, but the difference with our country is the fact that if such a rape did occur the soldier or soldiers, involved will be brought to justice. Of the 135000+ troops we have there, a very small hand full may have committed some crimes. They are being (and will be) tried, convicted (if guilty) and punished for their crimes. You can not say that for the terrorists, or even for the blue hat UN peace keepers around the world.

Is it that a man flying jets into skyscrapers full of innocent women and children is fulfilling his duty to serve the people of Islam and its values?
Does my example of your reasoning help to show you the flaw in your logic? Probably not, I doubt you can see beyond your brainless hatred of Americans.
Don't fool yourself, you are nothing more then a hatemonger. What a sad waste of a human being.
**And no I don't hate Muslims. I was just using that as an example of how you can't judge and entire culture based upon the negative actions of a few amongst them.**

If you could have kept up with the news, you would have read that this person managed to slip into the military with a waver, because of the shortage of recruits during this time of war.
So, this young man had a problem prior to joining the military and his actions are not necessarily correlated to his military service.
It makes for a good watercooler story if you are a Commie-lover or an extreme Leftist though.

Remember, there are always a few bad apples in the bunch.
Don't judge all soldiers the same..as many of them do have morals.
Also remember, it is not the soldiers choice of where he goes to fight.

Wow, a few bad apples out of a 300,000 plus population of troops! There's a shock...
Not bad really, considering we're not that lucky in any city throughout the U.S.
