'To William Shakespeare' by Rabindranath Tagore, translated by Aurobindo Bose.

"O universal poet,
Whose sun rose on a distant shore,
England found you in her breast,
Thought you were her own,
Kept you--
Kissing your shining brow--
In forest boughs a while embraced,
In dew-bright dales removed,
Where fairies danced and flowers bloomed.
Not yet did the island groves resound
With singing praise for this rising sun.
Then, he leaped the horizon's lap
Wordlessly called from Infinity,
Climbed in the centuries hour by hour,
To reach the zenith of his glory,
Enlightening the mind of a world.

"See now,
From far Bharat's shore,
From her coconut groves,
At this end of an age,
Rings his song of Victory."
