Discover the Prima Materia.

Good luck. Let me know if you do.

Edit: I had to go back and answer this for real, since you received so many bad answers.
Alchemy is a protoscience. An early form of chemistry which was also mixed heavily with philosophy and astrology. Since astrology has been discredited as a sham you'll have to suspend belief. That part is up to you.
The ultimate goal of the Alchemist is to find the Prima Materia. This is believed to be the material from which all things are made. The Alchemist is therefore searching for the Philosopher's Stone and the Elixer of Life (aqua vitae). The main course of action is through Transmutation - intentionally changing one element into another. Real alchemists were not so much interested in changing lead into gold (except maybe to finance their experiments) but in finding the essence of life. 'Alchemists' who were looking just for material wealth were called puffers.
The basics of Alchemy supposedly came from the Egyptian god Thoth who in Greek was known as Hermes Trismegistus. According to legend Thoth delivered the 'recipe' for the Philosopher's Stone through a document called the Emerald Tablet or Tabula Smaragdina.

1. Tis true without lying, certain & most true.
2. That wch is below is like that wch is above & that wch is above is like yt wch is below to do ye miracles of one only thing.
3. And as all things have been & arose from one by ye mediation of one: so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
4. The Sun is its father, the moon its mother,
5. the wind hath carried it in its belly, the earth its nourse.
6. The father of all perfection in ye whole world is here.
7. Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
7a. Separate thou ye earth from ye fire, ye subtle from the gross sweetly wth great indoustry.
8. It ascends from ye earth to ye heaven & again it desends to ye earth and receives ye force of things superior & inferior.
9. By this means you shall have ye glory of ye whole world & thereby all obscurity shall fly from you.
10. Its force is above all force. ffor it vanquishes every subtle thing & penetrates every solid thing.
11a. So was ye world created.
12. From this are & do come admirable adaptaions whereof ye means (Or process) is here in this.
13. Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having the three parts of ye philosophy of ye whole world.
14. That wch I have said of ye operation of ye Sun is accomplished & ended.

Alchemist communicated and recorded their findings through symbolic drawings and cyphers.

Alchemy is the study of making Gold - the elment. Some people including Newton believed that all element can be made using an adequate mixture of Sulphur and Mercury and that's how they starte out trying to produce gold by mixing or fusing these two elements somehow. I don't know if it is practised anywhere even today but you can search for people who practise such things on GOogle. I mean if communities like Illuminati and Priori of Sion can exist, then why not a society of Alchemist?

The closest thing right now is to study chemistry. as Alchemy was the beging of it.
There are reprints in bookstores and libraries that will hep teach you the way the founders did their work.
The first alchemists were looking for the Philosophers Stone that can turn lead into gold.

Alchemy is the art of transforming, of evolving, has nothing to do with gold... or the philosopher's stone. the stone represents the evolution of man, to "gold".
Live youre life as a good person and you will be an alchimist
