Because of two reasons - They felt that no one can touch them and second they were happily making money by selling goods for war which was thousands of miles away so they were forced to get in once it knocked their door.

Loosers cannot be choosers so Germans could not do anything and Allied forced ensured that they suppress them to the extent that they cannot come up again like they did after first world war where also they were done injustice but not crushed resulting in rising back,
