Well, first of all, the military does what it's told to do. That's how it functions, from the top down. This means that you need good people on the very top, and at the moment we don't have that. So in short, the answer to your question is that it's the leaders of the country that choose war, not the military itself. Not all soldiers are for the current war, though. You'll notice that there have been a number of top generals coming out in protest over the way Bush and Company have been handling things. And there's Rep. Jack Murtha, who was a military man and now a member of Congress, who boldly cam out against the war and is now being "Swiftboated." But why do people who don't like war join the military in the first place? It's because some people think that sometimes there is no alternative to fighting (though it should be used as a last resort), and they join because they feel it's their duty to be there when the chips are down. They see it as the best way to protect the people and institutions they care about.
