It means "laughing out loud". It's often in response to a joke or a criticism of a remark one disagrees with. Terms of a similar nature include "rotfl", which means "rolling on the floor laughing" and "rotflmao" which means "rolling on the floor laughing my a s s off".
You can, I'm sure, recognize the last one as deep sarcasm.
