previously we used to think that the world was made up of 5 basic elements i.e.earth, water , fire, air and sky. gradually our knowledge increased and now we know that there are about 108 elements. now we also know that a molecule can be broken into atoms and atom is also divisible there are protons, neutrons and electrons. then they are further divisible. there are positrons, quantas and what not.with each increase in so called knowledge, the life become tougher. today we know more than our forfathers. but we also donot know more than what our forfathersdid not know.moreover this knowledge doesnot seem to have made our life any simpler.

It depends upon what you mean by "solving our problems." Do you mean enviromental problems? Medical problems?

As we learn more, we find there is so much more to learn! Science and mathematics are becoming more and more complicated because we are discovering that the problems are more and more complicated. And the more answers we find, the more questions we have.

If you mean overcomplicating things, then definitely yes. The more specialized our knowledge becomes, the more we know about less and less.

Ok does any of these above explained help you in ur daily life..... do u keep a drop of water under microscope and measure how much of what is there. Is it really that important that we have to know how many cells or how many of watever is there in any of the things. Do u count the number of molecules or electrons or watever in any of your intakes or as a matter of fact anything at all? Now whether there 108 or 5 elements.... what is their purpose. Incase it is of purpose also.... did our forefathers know its purposes? Or are we in the current times using those unknown elements knowingly.

Fine even if they are all of use and are of great purpose...... are they serving the major purposes of Life?

BEING HAPPY & LIVIG THE MOMENT !!!

I definelty dont think so, frankly i cannt even name any more than the 5 elements. In life we have to be practical..... more than believeing in science or not. Science does play a major role.... but it should not be the only belief.

To me sience is just another religion. You believe that there are atoms, because it is the best answere to the phenomens observed. You belive that there are electrons for the same reason, you believe that there are 108 elements, because you got told that there are...or have you checked? No, I too believe in science, it gives us a lot of answeres, tells us what to so with practical problems, but always keep in mind they are all only theories, working well and widely accepted, but just theories. If our knowledge advances we might find out that we were totally wrong...500 years ago almost every scientist was convinced that the earth was the center of the universe, that turned out wrong. 200 years ago every scientist believed in Space and time as beeing uniform, Einstein proved them wrong. What will be in 100 years? So keep in mind, its all just a working theory

The problem is that other countries weed out kids early on so that the ones in the math and science classes are only the best and brightest. We have to give all kids the same opportunities. I like what other countries do. If a kid wants to goof around and waste teachers time then fast track him to flipping burgers or mopping floors.

"but we also donot know more than what our forfathersdid not know"
Incorrect (and makes no sense). We know more now than they knew then. We now have the knowledge that there are many things we do not know, which our "forefathers" might not have had. (Because they had an explanation for everything...right?)
Science is not making problems more complicated, it is just making more "problems" to be solved. However I don't really think of them as problems.

Answer: Solving problems. It is rather closed-minded to think of science as "making them more complicated" when science just tries to find the truth. If the truth is complicated, so be it.

Science and Technology have indeed brought in a revolutionary changes in the lives of mankind. It has freed us from the drudgery of manual labour. Bertrand Russell visualised a situation wherein due to the scientific and technological advancement, man will be free from poverty and there will be more leisure for him hence forth. In his leisure time, man, Russell reasoned , will find more time for art and literature. As a result of the advancement of science, creativity of art will thrive, he said. Alas, he has been proved wrong. Gandhi hit the nail at the right spot, when he said man's dependence on machine will prove to be his undoing . The chackra was not a political symbol for Gandhi, for opposing the British rule, but a moral vehicle, whereby he exhorted the Indian masses to realise the potential of a self sustained economy, based on dignity of manual labour. Further, Russell himself witnessed in his life-time, to what destructive purposes modern science and technology can be used by man, in warfare. Your referring to what our forefathers knew about science is apposite here. Do not think the ancient sages of yore, in vedic period, were ignorant about many of the discoveries of to-day. There is a reference to the atomic weapons in certain Upanishads, which they expressly decided not to reveal to the world, lest the knowledge will prove to be destructive to humankind.

science is doing both.
but its not the problem of science. its the problem of our greed.
when i came to west, i witnessed, how science is abused and misused, by the gross destruction of environment, in the name of development.
knowledge is power, no doubt. and we can't stop the process of its advancement. but we can always reign in our greed, only if we become a bit conscious. it is funny that, so many loud mouthed people in the west talk about environment. but i don't think these people will ever give up their life of comfort for the sake of peace and environment.
in the so called modern world peace is never been so illusive. the more they boast about their development and effluence, the less and less happy they are.
people in this developed world are so engrossed in their artificial life that, they even forgot what is real happiness.
and it is done by human only, by the abusive use of science.

Science don't solve problems but rather helps us understand and be aware of them. These "problems" you think science only complicates have long been there. We just didn't know it yet until science made us realize of its existence. We shouldn't blame science.

Our technology (ie;science) is advancing faster than our humanity.
Doctors can 'cure' but are losing the ability to 'heal'.
If you love 'life' science in the wrong minds will jade you.
