Education is really important to me and because I ran away when I was young, it has taken a lot of work to finally get a good enough collection of academic proficiency together to get accepted to as good of a school as I did.
But its only by exception that I was admitted, and I don't qualify for any scholarships or grants... I make a precarious living already, but I'm afraid once I leave silicon valley, I won't be taken seriously anywhere else, especially in Southern California...

I've been surprised with some sudden costly events and now in order to pay for everything, I'd have to find a really good job really soon, and then I still have to make sure I still have time for school. I don't want to end up as a stripper like a lot of other financially impaired girls at that school do, but I really don't want to start school and then be unable to finish.

I don't know which would be worse, and I don't know if I'll get accepted into another good school if I back out. Should I stay, or go?

i'm not sure what you mean when you say you're afraid you won't be "taken seriously"? yes, la is a strange place, but you seem very smart and driven. there will be jobs waiting for you. in the meantime, waitress if you have to. that's what i did during my entire career in the uc system and loved every minute of it. try to throw your caution to the side and go for it... you can do it, there are tons of "starving" students out there, but it's worth it in the end.

Opportunity cost, baby! It's one of those things I have learned being in college. Is spending all that money on tuition & such worth it? Yes. Even if you don't get a job making oodles of money, you will have the mental satisfaction of completing a goal. Don't worry about money. I know, easier said than done. But you will manage somehow. Everyone always does. Even if you have to live off Spaghetti O's for awhile, it's better than looking back later in life & regreting not trying. TRUST ME.

Stay. Definately. I'm not that old, but I've known enough people that regretted dropping out of college. I know what it's like to barely be able to pay for college. I have a part-time job, and couldn't get any scholarships, so I'm busting my ***, and putting myself through college. The only thing helping me is band. I'm in the marching band, our basketball band, and a concertband, and I get money for doing all that. It sucks, but four years from now it'll pay off.

I say go! In the long run you'll be so much better for it. You should still fill out a FAFSA, there's a section where you explained any events that have changed your financial status, I think. Also, go to sites like www.brokescholar.com and www.fastweb.com . Good luck!

i was 48 years old before i went back to school. stop wasting time and find programs that will accept you. i got my funding through unemployment. some colleges will allow you to sit in on class without being enrolled.

if you are young enough then i suggest the Army. it is a lot better then losing your self respect and calling yourself a "whore" for the rest of your life.
