I'm thinking about buying a new Powerbook.
1200 Euros for the repairation is over any psychological barrier, and just to get bakc to the previous state: a slow -comparig to the new MacBooks- G4.

Any advice?

It sounds like a ton of money to repair a slow computer. Maybe you should get a new one. ... Either that, or you could go in yourself, dry out the innards, reseat the keyboard, and make sure all of the connections are good. This takes some advanced capabilities, but it's totally possible. You need a tiny screwdriver in addition to something metal to rest your feet on so you don't cause static damage to the innards of your machine.

It depends how attached you are to your PowerBook - if you're a Pro user you might want to get it fixed as few Pro Apps have been converted to run nicely on the new Intel x86 chips which can be found in the new MacBook's and MacBookPro's so you'll still need your PowerPC powered PowerBook - if you're not attached to your PowerBook then I personally would take the opportunity to upgrade to either of the aforementioned new models.

It's unlikely your Hard Drive will have been damaged in the spill so it should (in theory) be possible to recover your data from the Hard Disc that is in your PowerBook.

Also, if you want to, try and claim on your house hold insurance if you have a policy or if such items are covered under your policy - you have to weigh up whether it's worth loosing any no-claims bonuses you might have worked up.

it depends on two things...

1) if you have any important data on the current laptop
2) you have 1200 to spend.

if you think you dont have nothing there and have enuf money then go ahead and buy a new one... if you have and you have enuf data....still you can buy cause you can tranfer the data from the old laptop as hard disk are less risked by coffee spills..

however as repair charge is 1200 i believe there might be heavy damage to the old one and its not very good to advisable to change a thousand item to make it running...

sounds like they want to replace it works out at around £1100 give or take. try claiming on your contents insurance. If you don't have any or don't have accidental damage cover then i would suggest you get a new laptop :)
