The apostrophe does not make nouns plural, it makes them possessive.
You are hereby fined $20 for abuse of the apostrophe. Mail the $20 to a charity of your choice, go forth and abuse the apostrophe no more.

As far as the military , no there isn't, but you may talk to your spouse about maybe talking to a supervisor and asking him /her to check around maybe the unit can all pitch in and give you a hand, I know when my husband was overseas, my husband's unit came over several times to help fix my furnace, and living in Alaska you need that.
