I just got done listening to Mansun's "Cancer" which is on the album "Six". I hadn't listened to the whole song loud with my headphones on in a room that was completely silent in some time. Paul Draper's voice is -amazing-. Every single sound, even with so many details and layers, seems to have been placed very carefuly to have made the effect so wonderful! He says some lines so oddly that I sometimes don't know if he is serious or not when he says them. And he sings "I'm emotionaly raped by Jesus" which is just, I don't know, horrible? Disturbing? Makes you feel bad for him too? And it seems like half his songs are about how his religion, or how he was brought up Catholic, has hurt him so much. It is awefuly convincing!
I don't know what to think. But it sounds so beautiful. I was almost smiling during parts because it felt so good but by the end I cried just for a sec. and then I felt as if I would throw up. I feel so deeply about his music. What should I do?What songs do this to U

To the Radiohead guy...
Thank you soooo much for answering my question! The comment box is too small to fit everything in I wanted to say.
Ever hear Radiohead is nieghbors with Mansun? well, maybe I should say 'was'.
Your description of the Radiohead song was excellant. Will have to check out the song. Know of a good place to listen to it? Do you call that like expirimental, progressive, alternative??
I've heard some Radiohead before. I just like songs with more vocals and faster songs usualy.

Good advice too. Maybe I'm more worried about my mental state and I feel sad for the guy and happiness at the same time. So in love with the music.

Oh, and I never meant to fall in love with Mansun, it just happened! I never listened to lyrics like this before!

I can't understand when people aren't obsessed with a certain song or band and they never seem to feel as strongly about music as I do. You know, those people that say they like about any kind of music.

Radiohead's "How to Disappear Completely". While the subject matter is nothing at all controversial, Thom sings about an out of body experience he's reported to have had playing a Dublin show. The way that Radiohead combines intensely dissonant, whispered strings with a very stable, tonal guitar strumming in 6, set against a bass playing in 4. None of the three should work with the other, but all three together work perfectly. The song is incredibly well-composed, and continues to play with what shouldn't work, including a moment of video game-y synths playing around the rest of the band. Or, perhaps, when the strings rise, and rise, and rise, growing more and swallowing the rest of the song in chaos, then suddenly releasing - this moment is as close to perfect as I've heard.

The song never ceases to affect me, and I literally cannot drive with it on, because it overpowers me at certain points to the point that actually doing things becomes hard, and I have to focus to breathe normally. It's an exceptionally beautiful song, and you should try it out if you like music that affects you strongly.

What I think you should do is keep exploring music. Keep wondering why certain music makes you feel what you feel, and keep questioning why artistic decisions were made and how and why they work or don't. Mostly, explore lots of music, so you can have a broad scope of understanding and knowledge. You'll probably find other songs by other artists in other genres that make you feel that intensely, that you never thought you'd be listening to! I know a lot of Classical and Romantic era music really works for me, especially music from the greats like Beethoven, Schubert, and Chopin. So much of their music is filled with powerful, though often subtle, emotion.

Is it the lyrics that get you so emotionally wrapped up? Or the music? I experience similar emotions when I listen to Stairway to Heaven...but its partially because of the lyrics and partially because of the guitar playing. "And as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls, there walks a lady we all know, who shines white light and wants to show that everything still turns to gold, and if you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last when all are one and one is all to be a rock and not to roll."
I get a high from listening to it, and sometimes I want to cry because the whole song is just so beautiful and so right.

Time by Pink Floyd has a similar effect on me. It makes me want to cry...I probably have a little bit.

I like music that really gets into your soul and your emotions. I think you should let it, there's nothing you can really do about it.

I also think we are probably both overanalyzing this and thinking way to hard lol. We both need to get a life :p

Metal isnt approximately being catchy, should you wish that then appear somewhere else. I concentrate to steel when you consider that it's a lot more creative than such a lot different genres and continues me interested. The surroundings contained in lots of types of steel you could by no means discover in another style. it's only invigorating to hear, and mainly has plenty extra that means than "amusing" songs that seem at the radio. I love to be utterly immersed and sucked into the tune I concentrate to, Metal isn't for the informal tune listener as such a lot folks dont have the awareness span to respect it.
