Both are very po.werful songs for different (actually somewhat similar!) reasons. Tupac's "Changes" is a no-holds-barred, frontal assault on the problems and issues facing many young African Americans today. Well-stated, and of course well-sung.

Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is" (which is sampled for "Changes") is all about the system of apartheid that existed in South Africa. Blacks, despite being the majority, were kept segregated from the whites in almost every sector of society. One of the most poignant lines is "Man in a silk suit hurries by, as he catches a poor old lady's eye, just for fun he says "get a job..."

Hornsby's piano playing is amazing, of course. I find it impossible to decide between the two - it's like choosing between the Beatles and the Stones. Both are excellent, albeit for different reasons.
