I have a little sony stereo system and I was wondering if I can hook up an amp to some top of the line (and bigger) speakers? The reason I'm asking is cause I can only hook up two speakers right now and if I would to hook up a good size speaker (a 3rd speaker) to it and have the valume up it quits out cause it's using too much power. And I wanna hookup atleast 6-8 speakers for surround sound. I don't need tips on how to hook up more speakers. Just need info. on if it's possible to hookup an amp so if I would to hook up more speakers the amps would provide enough power where it won't quit out.
Any help would be great.

one way would be to wire the speakers in series ( you can easily google this); your amp is quitting because it cant drive the low impedance load of three speakers in parallel. One point i wanna make though is that "surround sound" is not just about the number of speakers- true surround sound has individual channels (& individual amps) to provide the effect. Maybe find a new home for your current receiver and buy one made for the purpose.
