If you're under 18 then it is common to have irregular periods for the first couple of years.
Something to consider however is FAT (Female Athlete Triad). Simply put, it is the combination of undereating, and overtraining, which leads to loss of your period. The athletes body is basically starving to death and trying to find ways to reduce wasting energy. By not having a period, their bodies conserve a lot of energy. Young high school athletes, are prone to this when competing in sports under extreme coaches. There are also very serious health consequences to this senario.
Just a possibility, however, most likely just your body finding its own rythym. Monitor it and make your doctor aware of it.

Get another doctor. I complained to my doctor for two years that my periods were irregular or absent, and he told me nothing was wrong. I went to another doctor and found out that I have a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome.
I can't believe he said to wait until you're at least 18 to worry! Is 18 some magic age when all things come together and work perfectly? I used to be 18, and I can you tell that's not true.
Please see someone else. Take care.
P.S. If you have what I have, it's easy to treat and you can have kids. Don't worry, just get another doctor.

Don't worry hun, you're fine. I'm on the pill and it most definetly regulates your periods. Mine used to be all over the place to and last for 8 days but now it's always on the same day and it only lasts for 3 or 4 days with less cramps.

go to a doctor!!! don't wait till your 18!!! I had the same problem, i was diagnosed with pcod (polycystic ovarian syndrome); which are small cyst in your ovaries, that prevent you from having regular periods and can keep you from ovulating. try in getting a different opinion from another doctor if you don't feel comfortable with what he is telling you Get some labs done, chances are they will give you birth control and other hormonal pills to help you regulate your period. Its better to be safe and get checked out as soon as possible!!!
