Because the British drive on the right. Anywhere but the commonwealth (or former commonwealth, in India's case), they drive on the left. Hence, Australians also drive on the right hand side of the car.

Way back in History, before road travel was really regulated, the French decided to make citizens travel on the right hand side of the road.
The British chose the left side.
This was around the time of Napoleon, so all the countries that Napoleon conquered started driving their carriages on the right hand side of the road.
Then later on the English built up an empire, and many of their colonies started driving on the left.
Also other countries chose left or right either arbitrarily, for their own reasons, or because of ties with England or France.

The British began the auto era as Right-handed drivers.
They simply followed the European tradition laid back by the Army of Napoleon in the medieval period.
As India was a British colony it was only natural for it to be introduced in India.
Whereas when cars started plying the streets of America, the American followed an anti British agenda so they preffered left hand drive. With their increase in dominance of the world thois tradition was passed on to other countries.

Probably because when cars were introduced in India you were still part of the British Empire.
Once the British left it was probably easier for you to stay with right-hand vehicles.

Um, in Europe they have right, from the rear of the vehicle, driven autos. The U.S. has left hand driven vehicles, from the rear. That makes you a stupid person.

Umm, I don't know where you got it that American's drive on the left, but they drive on the right. The only place in the world that people drive on the left hand side of the road, is England (maybe UK) but the rest of Europe also drives on the right.

because we are on different sides of the earth. in us, we are on the side of the world that drives on the right side. so naturally people dirve on the left side on the other side of the earth. just like having right and left hands. the world has to have a right hand and a left hand too. wouldn't the earth look funny with two left hands.

precise, i'm able to't write with my left hand in any respect! yet I do an outstanding style of issues with my left hand, apparently i'm left hand eye co-ordinated. Or precise, whichever is the option of what precise handers should be! I open doors, carry bags and do maximum stuff with my left hand.
