The c600 is an older laptop. So for one thing, like the others have said, the battery is probably nearly worn out. A decent battery will last at least 2 years and likely more depending on how you use it.

However, because this is an older model, it's not as energy efficient too. So even with a new battery, don't expect to get the kind of time you find in today's laptops. The Centrino CPUs from Intel, for example, are powerful but also able to conserve a lot of power when it's not needed. Don't believe the hogwash about this having anything to do with Dell. The brand of the laptop has very little to do with bad batteries or power consumption. In very few cases is that really a factor.

ok it sound like you dont have a verry good battery you can buy a much better one for it ask your pc store about them tell them the make of your laptop the battery may cost you a lot as for using the power on your laptop that is fine but dont have the laptop on for to long 7 hrs is ok but take a break in them 7 hrs and let your laptop have a brerak to nerver have it out in hot weather .. like a good sunny day its not going to do the laptop any good never put anything underthe laptop like books make sure when you use your laptop that the air fents under it and at the back of of it are free for the laptop to have air if you block the fents the laptop will over heat and burn out then your have to buy a new one and you dont want to do that if your going to have a softdink and food while your online talking to friends or on the inthernet make sure your softdrink's are not right by the laptop food always clean your hands when you have had food that way the keys on the laptop keyboard dont come dirty .
you can try this with the battery you have leave it in the laptop and use the power supply on the laptop for about 1.. 2 hours with the battery still inside as the battery auto charge its self when your using the power on the laptop then shut down the laptop 1...2 hrs later and befor you put it back on remove the power cable then start your laptop up and see how long the battery last this time you also see a
battery icon in the taskbar by your pc time put your mouse over that and it will tell you how long you have be for the battery has to re - charge the way the battery re - charge is when you put the power cable back in to the laptop
when your not using the laptop coz your away from it at the time do not close down the laptop door with the screren if the laptop is on coz you will burn out the laptop
take care

Dell's batteries don't last too long. Heard many complaints about it. They usually fizzle out in about 45 minutes.

You have a bad battery. Pretty soon it will not even last that long so get ready to get a new one.

Yes, that is how you charge it.
