It feels real mushy because your abdominal muscles are very weak. My daughter was a fat little tunafish, so I gained 70lbs! And, when she was born last year (July 20th), I still looked pregnant for a while. I wore the tight elastic belt made by mederma and that helped. Once I stopped breastfeeding I went on a clean diet with 6 days of cardio weight training, with serious abdominal work. Now my stomach feels back to normal. It takes a while. Oh yeah, and it feels hollow too.

It's all mushy and jelly like! The best thing I heard was on a Coupling episode, Nightlines, where they called it a jelly midriff. ^_^ I didn't really feel hollow or anything, but I couldn't use the muscles too well since they were still loose from holding the baby in. After a while it was still a little mushy from about an inch or maybe a little more of fat on my belly, but the muscles seemed to tighten up fairly quickly. I don't know how long it would take to get rid of the belly fat since I got pregnant again before getting rid of it. My son was about a year old by then, though, so it does take less than a year for the muscles to go back to normal. For me, at least.

It feels mushy because you have so much extra weight after having a baby. Thankfully I only gained 30-35 pounds with my pregnancies and actually left the hospital with people not realizing I had a baby until they saw the baby. It will feel mushy for a long time and most people end up keeping a pouch. It kinda hurts though to push on the stomach because your uterus is still contracting to close and the nurses and drs push on it to check on things (not fun trust me)

It feels (and looks) like a big bowl of Jello! It was actually funny to me after my first child was born. I couldn't stop pushing it to see it move. Now, 1 year after my 3rd and final child, the humor is gone and I am trying desperately to get my pre-mommy stomach back! It's almost there but needs a little more work!!!

Mine felt hollow and empty, now it is all jiggly like jello. I know some people that get their prepregnancy belly back in no time. My daughter is 19 months old, I still have it. :-( Anyways, get a belly firming belt and wear it all the time (especially during meals) it will help you muscles get back into shape and help keep you from filling the "void" you now feel with food.
My friend swears by it (she did it with BOTH of her kids) but I tried it and it hurt my back to much, I am looking into a different one.
