I had this problem, and it caused me all sorts of heartache. I ended up having to speak to the Apple helpline and they advised me on a few changes in the settings that I had to make. It took me a week to sort the problem out. You'll need your serial number when you phone. I can't lay my hands on my manual at the moment, but if you go to the Apple website you should get the helpline number from there.

I've vowed never to do an update again.

Very common .. I bet you tried to access other programs at the same time of update, often crashes the system! but anyway sounds like a complete mess. Reboot the PC. Reboot the iPod. Try again: you will need to be Patient!
If no good: Re-install the iPod software to the PC. Re install the library (you maybe lucky and the computer may recognise a re-istallation) Sync PC and iPod and away you go.

You will need to unintall the ipod from the computer's control panel.

Then re-install, make sure you temporarily freeze the firewall on the computer.

Then on help on the top left hand side of the itunes, click on 'check for updates' this should locate all the songs.

Connect the ipod to the computer and press the MENU AND CENTRE SELECT BUTTON together until you see the apple symbol. This will reboot the ipod itself and make it be located on itunes

As reported already, it really is a lack of RAM, besides the very incontrovertible fact that which could aspect out by ability of slowing and preventing and could commonly once you're operating some issues on the time. look on your adventure viewer, see if it has mistakes messages or warnings, fairly contained in the gadget or software log.(form eventvwr.msc contained in the run container in case you cant locate it.) If no longer something obvious, open interest manager, and enable it run contained in the decrease back floor, it provide you with slightly icon contained in the bottom precise icon tray which will aspect out if you're making use of up all of your memory or cpu. if you're fairly literate, configure performance monitoring. you are able to google the perfect counters to ascertain. and note the position issues spiked or died once you next crash. despite the indisputable fact that if it truly is recent, attempt only doing a gadget restoration to till now it all started going incorrect, and note if that receives it taken care of. Refuse all updates and dont reinstall something you placed on after the date of the restoration. After that you may only have a troublesome ware difficulty. Ram is continuously the most probably criminal, you are able to receive loose techniques like memtest(i imagine) which will study your memory for undesirable config or damaged sectors. reliable success
