"FOR THE LOVE OF money is A root of all KINDS of evil..." I Timothy 6:10 you have the quote misquoted. What this really means is, "people will do anything for money", not, "everything people do is for money". Capitalism works because I would not be willing to build a house for free but if you pay me enough I would be happy to do it for you. if you payed me enough I would be willing to crawl around in the sewers or shovel cow manure or do any number of other jobs that I find distasteful. I might not want to do it for long, or My price might be too high for you but that is why I believe in capitalism.
not everything Evil is done for money. not everything done for money is evil. there is a mathematical concept called the Venn diagram it is two partially overlapping circles if you label one "Evil actions" and the other "Seeking money" only the area of overlap is evil actions done for seeking money.
to rephrase it another way "Greed, while not the only cause of evil, will cause some people to do evil."
If you look throughout history you will find that every type of evil deed that has been committed has been commit ed at least once by someone motivated by Greed (love of money), but you will also find people that committed those same types of acts for different reasons(control, insanity, sadism etc.) greed does not motivate EVERY evil act but every type of evil act could be done out of greed.
no object is inherently evil. saying "money is the root of all evil" is the same as saying that anything used for money is inherently evil in and of itself. rather it is what the person does with or for the object that is evil or is good.
Regarding Equality in Capitalism: Any one in a pure capitalist Economy has the chance to make their life whatever they want it to be. true capitalism says you are born equal, everything you do after that is your own problem. if you work hard and are innovative and are able to provide what people are willing and able to buy you will be successful. if you are a sluggard or you are not innovative or you make a product without a proper niche you will be unsuccessful. this is a better way then to say that everyone should be forced into equality for all time, if you follow that route there is no incentive to work. if you work hard under that type of system your money will be taken away and given to someone else. if you don't work hard any money that you need will be taken from someone else and given to you.

"Money is the root of all evil" is not only bullpadookey, it is also a misquote of the Biblical statement, "Love of money is the root of all evil." I don't even agree with the proper quote, for the Bible also says rebellion against God in the Garden of Eden started sin in the world. And "money is the root of all evil" sounds like somebody has to PAY people to sleep with somebody else's wife, act disrespectful to parents, and break all the other ten commandments. Without money, how can churches build buildings and feed the hungry? Far from being the root of all evil, money is necessary in order to keep the world running. Hey, you wanta pay the preacher in bushels of corn, go back to the barter system? You must want to find out just how far you have to go to make a preacher cuss.

Money is the "root" of evil, not evil in itself, anymore than a gun is evil in itself. It depends on who has or uses money and how they use it. Greed is the evil and money is the temptation to be greedy.
A good man who works hard even if he owns his own business, will give to charity, help his neighbors and be an asset to his community. An evil man will hoard his money, abuse his employees and be a greedy selfish miser.
Capitalism, while far from being a perfect system, does make it possible for an ordinary individual to be his own master and own his own business and rise (or fall) by his own efforts. If government controls everything, then the power of the individual to get a share of the wealth is limited. There are many stories of individuals who started out with a small local business and was able to grow it into a multi-million dollar enterprise (eg, Gino's Pizza Rolls, Wendy's, etc.)

Even if money is the root of all evil, that doen't mean that every one who lives in a capitalist society is automatically evil. Just because the love of money "Can" result in evil doesn't mean it will in every case.
They say that smoking causes cancer. Yet not everyone who smokes has cancer. And many people will smoke until they die of other causes besides cancer.
It's all in the logical analysis of your presumptions and what a "cause" may or may not be or whether a Result is actually a necessary consequence or simply a corrolation associated with the premise.

I think people misunderstood the value of money.
Money is not only served to reward people for their contribution in the human society but also served as the standard of rewarding.
For examples:
You help your neighbor to mow the lawn, your neighbor use money to reward you.
You work hard and your company use money to reward you.
Doctors help patient and patient use money to reward the doctor.
There are nothing wrong with it.
People think money is the root of all evil is because they just don't want to bear the responsibility for what they'd done to the society.
For example:
You raped the woman and you claimed that because you were captivated by the way the woman's dress. the woman motivates you to make evil thing. So Woman is the root of all evil?"
Bottom line, I think the root of all kind of evil is the intention of the hate!

By quoting the Bible correctly.
Jesus didn't say money was the root of all evil, he said "love of money" is.
Jesus was probably a capitalist. He was raised as the son of a carpenter, followed that trade. His disciples were fishermen, a physician, people who earned their own money. Paul was a tentmaker.
Many Christians are wealthy and many of them use that wealth for the betterment of humanity. Money is not the root of all evil, but lack of it can sure be an evil situation.

Isnt it "the love of money is the root of all evil"? Even Karl Marx, according to Tom Friedman, believed that capitalism would eventually conquer the world and then and only then would man realize that he was nothing more than a wage slave. i do not believe that money is the root......, but that greed is. And I do beleive in capitalism, which at its root is the belief in capital, but not in unrestrained capitalism. I.e., capitalism without greed, which I guess is an ideal which wont catch on that easily.

Thank you for recognizing the misquotation.
Money is perhaps the most important invention in the history of economics. It allows people to trade goods and services more efficiently than bartering.
Free-market capitalism is the next most important development, in my opinion. This system allows people to start whatever business they choose and keep what they earn, thus creating competition and motivating them to make better products.
That being said, an inordinate desire for money is highly destructive. The saying "money is power" is entirely accurate in the economic sector, because money is market power. The human lust for power makes people want to attain that power in any way possible, even if it is destructive to society or even to oneself. Evidence of this exists throughout history.
*EDIT* Moreover, the "misquotation business" is entirely the point, because it means that money itself is not the actual problem.

Money, cant eat it, cant wear it, and cant live without it. All evil is done for some sort of gain and money represents all gains, so in a way all evil is done for money but it is certainly not the root of that evil. I think if there was no money we would still blame the devil for everything. At least the dollar cleared his name...

Money itself is not evil, any more than fire itself is evil. If you burn down someone's house, that's evil; if you light a fire to cook for your family or friends, that is not evil. It depends what you do with it and what you would do for it.
If you love money you are apt to do evil things for it. That's the difference. But money by itself is nothing but a medium for exchange. It's a kind of wild card that can stand for any good or service. Is the $.39 or whatever that it costs to buy a banana evil? Of course not; no more than the banana itself is evil.
