OK. Here's my shpiel on that. Cardiovascular exercise is basically aerobic exercise such as running, where you use alot of oxygen, whereas weightlifting is basically anaerobic exercise where you don't use as much oxygen and your action consists of short bursts of energy. During cardiovascular exercise you are burning off fat from your system after you burn some sugar; and during weightlifting you are mainly burning sugar. In weightlifting, you have to know that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are lifting and developing muscles to "replace" fat in your body, you are actually gaining weight but your body will become more toned and muscular. In cardiovascular exercise you are burning off fat almost the whole time so you will probably drop weight faster if you keep your training consistent. Remember that consistency is the key. I must also tell you that each individual has a different body type than the other and one can drop weight more from cardio than weights while vice versa for another person. It depends on who you are and how you are doing the exercising. You can definitely find out more with research on the web if you think that the information that I give is not enough to be reliable. (maybe my answer is a bit biased because I'm a runner) Anyways, I hope this helps.

Weightlifting will not take off weight, it will add it. Fortunately, it will be muscle mass and not fat, so it's healthy. Cardiovascular exercise uses up calories and therefore helps you lose weight, but the actual amount of calories used is depressingly low (about 100 cal per mile on a level treadmill). As a result, unless you diet, you may find working out to be counterproductive as far as scale indication, but it really is beneficial--if you need to lose weight, control your diet and don't depend on the exercise. What has been found, however, is that people who lose weight on a diet, will keep it off longer if they are exercising regularly.

The cardio will take the weight off quicker, but the weightlifting will make you look better and still fit in smaller clothes.

Which one helps you reduce weight faster? Neither. The thing that takes weight off faster is CHANGING YOUR DIET in combination with both of these things.
Warm up Cardio - Lift weights - Long Cardio Session.
Have six smaller, balanced "feedings" instead of three large meals. Get enough sleep. Hire a trainer.

Building yourself up through weights creates a more powerful engine which requires more fuel so you would lose more weight and turn into muscle mass. CV exercise cuts into your muscle mass

Cardio, one hour, 80% max heart rate.

Everyday.

But the chicks dig me because of my arms... not the fact that I can go for miles.
