The Hawaiian language in its written form was developed by the missionaries in the 19th century. The entire language was translated into written form based on the Latin alphabet

There are technically thirteen letters in the Hawaiian alphabet. The alphabet includes:

A E I O U H K L M N P W and `

The thirteenth letter is the `okina, which is denoted as `

The `okina represents a glottal stop that marks a momentary break in pronunciation (like how we say "uh oh") and is considered a consonant in the Hawaiian language.

FYI...there's also a diacritical mark called a kahako that elongates vowels and is represented as a macron (line) over the vowel. It is my understanding that this is not considered another letter, just a mark to aid in pronunciation.

Actually the hawaiian alphabet does not have a written form, so it has no letters. They use english characters. But it sometimes seems like they only use about 12 letters, as they have favorites they like to use a lot. lets see.. K, A, M, U, P, O, L, E, W, I, H, N, T. They dont really like using the others very much.
