the last one was a winner for a $1(no big deal) So,. I decided to get another ticket instead of a mere $1.00.......Well, that ticket turned out to be a winner of a pretty good amount, nothing huge, but a nice amount,,I was so happy that I shared the new with my neighbor..He now is making a big issue about it, saying that he should get 1/2 of it because he bought the tickets in the beging..I say NO WAY!! they were given as a gift..Anyone who buys Lotto tickets knows it a game of chance..Am I being selfish(as he puts it) or am I right ???? I don't even like going outside because as soon as he sees me he starts in and thank God for Caller ID..So I know when he calls.....What should I do??? Maybe I should have never taken them as a gift...

well he is ridiculous...you did explain to him that you took the one dollar ticket and bought another one...either way it was a gift...so i would not give him anything....i would just stay away from him...he should be happy for you if he was any kind of friend at all....so you have lost nothing the way i see it..maybe you learned something that will be helpful though in the future...enjoy your winnings and i would of told him something like i already spent it or i would not of told him anything at all...but you know now he is not a true friend at all..

I do not think you are being selfish at all. He gave you the tickets as a gift. And actually the ticket that one you naight because the winnings you got from him was only $1. so if he is going to be like that you should tell him that you one a dollar on the tickets he gave you so as far as half the winnings go you would only owe him 50 cents( true that would probably make him mad too lol)
When some one gives a lottory ticket as a gift the actually gift is what the person wins. So basically he his saying here is a lottory ticket as a gift but if you win i get half . Not a very nice gift if you ask me.
By the way someone I work with always gives lottory tickets as gifts and I have always one with the tickets he has given me and all he ever said was that is good to hear..
what you could always do is give him the dollar that would have been your winnings from his ticket and tell him that now you baught the ticket with your own money... I can not see a good way to resolve this ... I do not think you should give him half

You are most definitely right. If he gave them to you as a gift then you are not and should not feel obligated to give him anything. It was your decision to get another Lotto ticket instead of the dollar that was won from the tickets he gave you so in effect you are the one who won the money and it should have nothing to do with him at all

The taking of a gift is not the problem. When you told him about your winnings how did you do it? Happy for yourself? Bragging? Or is it that because he did something nice for you he expects it in return. That is a reason one should never do anything. If he expects half of that amount then give him 5 dollars that is half of what he spent. If that does not shut him up (and it won't) just carry on your life as if your neighbor doesn't exist. Good luck.

They WERE a gift. but if you would have won with one of the ones he got you then MAYBE, you should have given him some money just to be nice, or taken him out for lunch or something. What would he expect to do with ONE dollar. And since this ticket was bought by you with your money, it has nothing to do with him. Just ignore him, give him a dollar if you want to be a smart a**, but if you feel like being nice and getting him off your back, then take him out for lunch still. But it's your money, and this is not a divorce.

I think you are right if he wants half of the winning that you got off of the ones that he bought then give him 50 cents and tell him to be gone

No screw him, he is being a stupid cry baby...Does that mean if he gave you condoms for your birthday, and you brought home a cute woman, would he expect you to share her too,,, Tell him to get over it, also give him 50 cents cause thats all his ticket won anyway...

You OWE him Nothing. But if you want to be mean about it, give him a portion of the winning ticket he gave you, like half $0.50

I don't think you owe him anything at all!! But you were nice enough to share some of it with him, he should be happy with what he got. Isn't funny that money can do the worst things to us

No, you're not being selfish. Not at all. The exact opposite, actually. You didn't have to share ANY money with your neighbor, but you did anyway.
