I know he was real. I met him when I was 5 years old. My parents and I went to a telethon of some type and he was there. He even picked me up over his head. I was a bit disappointed that he wouldn't fly me around the room but he said that it was too small and someone might get hurt. I asked if we could go outside then and do it there. He told me that he would but he had talk to all the other kids there and when he was finished he would have to leave so he could go save the world again. I completely understood then.
I was heartbroken when I found out that he had killed himself. I just couldn't understand why he had that kryptonite bullet anyway. It must have been a mistake.
There have been many actors who have portrayed him in movies and on TV but I was one of the lucky kids who actually met the real Superman!

Yes, but only in the D. C. Comic Books & movies. D. C. was originally Detective Comics, but later changed to D. C. Comics.
Superman, was born on the planet Krypton as Kal-El, in 1932. Conceived by the collective creativity of Canadian artist, Joe Shuster and American writer, Jerry Siegel. They sold their creation & concept of Superman to Detective Comics in 1938.
Superman made his first appearance in the June, 1938 issue in #1 of Action Comics.

Yes. Superman exists in every person as the strengths and talents that every person possesses. Nobody would be given these 'powers' unless they were also given the opportunity to use them. Unfortunately, every person's "Lex Luthor" can be more powerful than their desire to use those powers for good, and they can be defeated. Everyone has their version of Kryptonite.
