its a mustang and i found a 5.0 motor for it. it has a v-6 in it right now and i was wondering if i needed a new tranny also. i know i need the wiring harness comp. and all the extra stuff....and would a rebuilt 5.0 engine be just as strong as a new one?

No, that is not a possible swap. There are a lot of things you would have to change to swap a V6 mustang to a V8. I would say that it would be cheaper to just buy a new V8 mustang.. No powertrain components are interchangable.

Update: The rebuilt 5.0 will have all new internals if it is from Ford. The only thnig reused is the block and head casting. It should be cheaper and just as strong. Check out http://www.fordracingparts.com and take a look at some of the Ford engines available, and other goodies from Ford, if you are interested.

No the bolt pattern is not the same for any of these engines
you fail to mention if the trans is a auto or manual ??
if manual you might be in luck with a bell housing change
Your best bet here would be pick up a Ford Motor sport catalog.. they show many engine/ trans swap combo's and a list of part's needed to complete the swap
including wire harness etc.

3.8 has a 6 bolt pattern, 4.6 has a 7 bolt pattern, plus wires, brackets, a/c lines etc. would all have to be changed, It is more trouble than what's it worth.

if your bolt patten don't match up..or if the piping underneath is too short or too long .........you will need a tranny to go with what you have now for sure. best bet..........find a good tranny and go with that.....
