There have been homosexuals and lesbians for as long as human beings have been around. Some societies, like the Greeks and Romans, accepted it as normal. Other societies throughout history have considered it an abomination. Did the Gay 90s encourage people who otherwise would have been straight to experiment with same sex relations? Probably, just the way the 60s caused more people than usual to use drugs who normally would have gone into the army or become actuaries.

I think most gay people can't help the fact that they are gay, and all of their lives they have probably felt like outcasts and rebels because people treat them like they are less than human. After a while rebellion gets hardwired into their system. So in places like the Castro district in San Francisco you have a whole community of people who seem like rebels but they probably got that way after years of people ostracizing them and calling their lifestyle sinful and corrupt. So their rebellion is a symptom of their homosexuality not the other way around.

Sorry, your question is flawed, being gay is not a choice, it is in the genes, nobody would choose to be an outcast in society in earlier times, it makes me happy that in society now a days that rights for all people are advancing and becoming more equal. There is a long way to go, but we are getting closer. (at least when we get a democrat in the white house again)

A very small percentage of gay men choose to be gay for reasons like the one you described. The vast majority of gay people are gay because they were born that way.

I would think that a guy who chose to be gay out of rebellion, would sooner or later discover his inborn heterosexuality, and abandon gay sex.

i would hope very very few...i do not think a guy would choose to be rediculed and the butt of society's jokes just to rebel against their parents...believe me, there are plenty of other ways to do this....so i say less than 1 % of all male homosexuals do it to rebel...if they do, they need a psychiatrist and resolve those parental issues

Not me. I'm gay because I just am. I can't really control it. Although, I am goth because I don't want to be mainstream, and because I connect with the gothic lifestyle.

You don't decide to be gay, you just are. Or you just aren't. Nobody knows for sure why it happens but it continues to happen generation after generation and it has for thousands of years so it is natural. Statistically unusual, but if it happens that much for that long, it is normal, it fits in to nature.

lololol, honey we are the mainstream. y'all follow along in our wake on fashion, music, decor, and most everything. i'll let you in on a secret madonna is well aware of. if you want to know whats hot in 6 months to a year hit the gay clubs. otherwise we're only doing what comes naturally to us, just like the rest of you. you can't help who you're attracted to.

WHAT!?!?!?
are you missing a nut or a bolt somewhere....
my parents taught me to be tolerant when i was young. so they are not homophobic. never once did they tell me not to be gay so i guess I'm not doing what they didn't want me to do.
BTW, FYI, i was born the way i was.....
*shaking head in amazement*
