I have a very lucrative opportunity, However the owner of the company's values are exactly opposite of mine. The little time that I have talked to him he has brought up the three no's He talked about Politics, Religion and Personal live/values. He has even put me in situations that try to make me compromise my values. I feel bad if I turn him down because we have been trying to make this work for about 3 months I feel I am in too deep and I don't want to leave him high or dry. What should I do?

Also is there an amount of money you can put on your values?

That is the one situation in life I would NEVER step into. I have worked in a place where the values did not live up to my own and each day I slipped deeper and deeper into this depression that people actually operate that way and there was nothing I could do to change it. I saw good people get hurt and bad people come out in the right. It was a horrible experience.

Think: would you enter into a love relationship with a person who's values conflict with your own? You may start out in it, but it would spoil quickly and you would have to deal with even more problems and cause even more trouble by leaving. Don't even go there. It will just go bad and it will be even worse when it comes time to get out later, rather than just not even getting involved to begin with.

Trust me, your job is a huge part of your life. You really have to factor these kinds of things into the bargain.

There's a difference between working with someone whose values differ from ones own, and compromising those values - at least, there would be for me.

If the business had something to do with propagating the values I did not believe in, then I would have a problem. Otherwise, it would simply be a matter of personal choice - would I be willing and able to effectively partner with someone with whom I often disagreed on non-business issues.

I might, depending on how lucrative it was, and whether or not I thought I would be expected to do anything illegal or not. My values already differ dramatically from my boss', and it works out ok for me, but in my case I'm the bad guy and he's a saint (heh, are you reading this boss?). Not sure how it would be if the roles were reversed.
