Money is clearly the root of all evil. Take a look at the things that people do for money. People prostitute for it, murder for it, scheme for it, just about any and everything for it. Money is one of the top reasons for divorce nowdays. Money is why this country is at war right now. Money can ruin friendships, relationships, and turn family against one another easily. Money breeds envy and hatred. That is why it is called the root of all evil. Better yet, listen to that song "For The Love of Money" by the O'Jays. It's an old school song, but it'll help u understand it a lil better too. Peace

When Jesus said love of money was the root of all evil he wasn't thinking deeply enough.
Why do people love money? - because with it they can buy the various kinds of power.
Why do people want power? So that natural inequalities will matter as little to them as possible. So they can have what they find good and be rid of what they find bad - to the extent that these are humanly possible. And once they have all they want, they want more money so that they can feel secure.
Of course, some people, especially those who have been unlucky or unloved early in life, are incapable of feeling secure. Such people, instead of making money to live, live to make money.
It is natural inequality, unchosen evil, that is the root cause of all evil.
So, if there is a God, it is God's failure to create the world free of unchosen evils that is the ultimate root of all evil.

A lot of the bible people think money is the root of all evil but what their book says is the _desire_ for money is the root of all evil so that answer would be greed.

The root of all evil = having two parties- A and B with intention of hate
For examples:
Religion A hates Religion B for not sharing or agreeing dogmatic culture!
Race A hates Race B for not being the same color.
Country A hates country B for not agreeing their politic.
Even Jesus hates Satan for being evil.
Company A hates company B for competing the market
Culture A hates culture B for competing the advanced civilization
Student A hates student B for comparing grade.
Poor hates Rich for not being Rich
Rich hates poor for destroying their benefit.

The Bible says that the "Love of Money" (not money alone) is the root of all evil. Some people may confuse the two. This makes me believe that selfishness and greed, ect. are attached to the love of money. I hope that helps!

Hmm. After reading all the answer I would say this: EGO , here is the thinking process in reference to a tree (where the tree represents the whole universe:)
IF Roots are: Baisc needs - food, clothes,shelter, security
Trunk represent: Opportunities
Branches: Inter-dependence between competing forces
the Bud are: desires
and Flowers/Fruits represent: comparative thinking, desire for more
Hmm. There is a close correlation between the Root and the Fruit. When the basic needs are satisfied we start to desire more............ to satisfy our EGOs.

traditionally it has been said that money is the root of all evil! religious sourses would say origanl sin is the root of all evil. the last acceptable thought that I had on the question is that ill thought out causes may be the root of all evil.
