I know with a beta, you can keep the same water for about 3 - 7 days.. depends. I have two bowls, so when it comes to changing water, one bowl is all ready for the fish switch.
Well water, or city?

I had a goldfish in a bowl with regular tap water, and it lived about five years. It played dead a lot for about the last year.It was weird the last time, when turning the bowl didn't get it swimming again!

Gold fish are actually one of the hardest to kill due to improper care. I went to a friends house one time and asked him why they kept the bowl of green water after the fish died. He told me there was a gold fish still living in the bowl and I had to look for myself...........sure enough the fish was in there and still alive. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself.

Gold fish dont last long because the water you have contains flouride and chlorine....but tiny amounts...its bad for the fish..so by Shock...it takes the flouride and chlorine out...

my brother has had some for 5 years or so. i'd like some fish, they would be soothing to look at, but then the cats would want rods and reels.
