I'm in Ontario, Canada. My husband works at a power station. The grid has been overburdened for days, it's all just one big happy blackout waiting to happen. It may not happen, but it probably will if the heat keeps up. We haven't lost power, but the lights have flickered or dimmed many times over the past few days. We're baking in a brutal heatwave here. We have central air, but I keep it at 28 degrees Celsius so it's not drawing so much power. Tonight we're under a severe thunderstorm watch and tornado alert - scary stuff! We've never had to worry about torndaoes before. I personally can't WAIT for fall when the weather cools off and hopefully stabilizes a bit.
I have three kids as well, the youngest is a year. We don't have a pool and our basement isn't finished yet so we can't really go hang out there. But I threw some blankets and supplies in the storage room in case we have to make a break for it. I hope I remember the dog...LOL.

I live in Newport news VA just east of Virginia beach. The thermometer outside my apartment hit a high of 103 today lucky I did not lose power because I work third shift and sleep in the day and that would not have made for a good day. I am very sorry your power went out. I know it is late but if that happens again my best suggestion is to find some 24 hour store that has power or a hospital, they usually have generators to keep power on.
I pray your power stays on through the rest of this terrible heat wave

I'm in the desert of California and the other day it was up to 110 degrees. My power will not go off during a rolling power outage (such as overusage from a heatwave) because I am disabled and require electricity for my medical needs. Now, if I don't pay my bill, that's my own problem.

Global warming. You have lost 6 years when you could have been dealing with it, with 2 more to go.
