I think the reason Yahoo!Answers is so addicting has more than one answer.
For some, it is a "playground" where they can call other people names (just look at the questions in "politics and government"!) while pretending to ask a question. Yeah, great fun while insulting those who do not agree with you.
For some, it is a wonderful opportunity to impress everyone with their ability to use profanity, or ask obvious sexual questions to "get a rise" out of others.
For some, it is a "god-given" chance to run down religious beliefs, again, to "get a rise" out of others. And it seems to work; I hope these type are satisfied.
But for some, it is also a place where anyone can, and often does, offer sincere advice and opinions to other people. I would not rule this group out, even though the other groups seem far more numerous. This is really what Yaho!Answers is about. And God bless those who do ask real questions and give honest advice! That is why it is addicting; we look for this last group, and some of us want to be a part of helping others. Call it "corny" if you will, but I think it is the reason many of us keep coming back.

I am on here way to much too. I just can not believe how many people do not even try to answer. I have just asked in 3 different ways, how do people pick their best answer fact, etc.etc. I guess I should have used vote instead of pick. About a quarter of the people actually answer your questions. I also wonder about all the could I, Am I, and the poor spelling. I especially dislike stupid sex questions over and over.

If you ever find out let me know. i feel the same way. What i have found that works is to find a category to look at for the night and every once in a while go to the main page to see if there is a "good" question posted lately. And be choosy what you answer. You don't have to answer every question.

Actually, it's addictive* not addicting.
But to answer your question, I'm not sure why. But, I have found that I really enjoy knowing that people appreciate my answers and reward me with ten points. I don't even have to get the ten points because it's just nice to be able to help people by sharing my experiences, etc.
Also, it's something for me to do on an otherwise boring internet.

I don't get it either. I do the same thing; waiting for some great question, or thinking up a question that might give me 100 responses! (which never happens). Once I start, I find myself saying, "I'll get off in a minute, just one more question!"
Even when I'm overly tired, I find myself saying, "Just one more, and I'll get off this site!"
It's like playing a video game, I've gotta get to 100,000 to see what happens!

it's the point system...everyone loves to overachieve at something, win something, feel good about something, win something, etc, etc. The points make you feel like you've achieved something, which makes you feel good, and you obviously feel like you've won something when you get to the next level!!! It's so exciting...and sooooo addictive...just gotta get those points...gotta come back and get them...so i can answer more questions and do more stuff...vicious cycle if you ask me...but hey...it's addictive and fun!! I know I've repeated myself now...time to go...ttyl....

Why put "GD?" Honestly, just put God damn. It doesn't matter how you spell it, the same thought is in it, so the words and letter don't even matter.
Yes, this thing can be annoying.

Because there are so many people. so little minds, and so much opportunity to tell people how stoooopid they are. It's like a continuous Japanese game show where you get to smack someone in the balls all the time.
You redheads are all alike. I can't help it. :-)
