Really close call, but I'd have to go with I as the ultimate classic. Dazed and Confused!!! You know, I don't think I can really say. I wore out several copies of both.
I saw them in 1970, just before III was released. They did all the songs from I,II and III. Gawd damn! What a furkin show that was!!!! Try and imagine hearing Immigrant Song for the first time like I did!

Now that's a really tough question! On reflection I have to say that Led Zeppelin's 1st album rocked harder because it was so new and Pagey really did pull out all the stops at the time. He even used the violin bow on How Many More Times! Oh, I love them both so much it's hard to say but I really have to go with their 1st album for the most bad assed among the two. Their 4th really rocked harder than the first two though!

Zeppelin I; they (the band) seemed really punkish during that time
when the first album came out. When I started rediscover their older stuff. Their best one were, I think, zeppelin I, then the album with stairway to heaven one, and out through the back door. these were my favorites.

II all the way, but constant radio play has ruined most of the songs on it for me. Physical Graffiti is my favorite.
