NO!!!!! Canadians have both English and French as national languages, depending on where you are. What about France? Germany? Russia? Do you see any of those countries even discussing this idea? Why is it that America is the only country that is so worried about what others think that we're afraid to stand up for ourselves? Why should we even consider having out NATIONAL ANTHEM in any language other than our own. I mean, if someone wants to sing it in their native language then we can't stop them, just like if I want to translate La Marseillaise into English I guess I could (although I'm betting I'd be in a world of hurt if I tried singing it at a soccer game!).

As an American, I think it's insulting that it's even being considered!

Well, I do believe in Canada, both are considered official languages. In the States, it's just english.

I would not be offended if someone sang the national anthem in spanish. In fact, I think I'd commend our non-english speaking citizens and immigrants for having a strong sense of patriotism. Most of us had ancestors that might have had a hard time speaking english at one point, but they stuck it out and made this a great country in which to live.

Absolutely Not. It is the American National Anthem and the official language of America IS English.

There are many factions throughout the world who would love to throw a wedge between us and our friends, i.e. drug lords, mob bosses, Middle Eastern radicals, etc.

If our friends, our true friends, wish to sing our National Anthem in their foreign tongue, why should that offend anyone?...Shouldn't we be proud and offer people around the world all the necessary tools and instruments of peace as we so often, and too often, offer instruments of war. How easy it is to kill on behalf of some cause and how difficult it has become to offer an olive branch to a friend.

If our friends wish to sing the National Anthem in any foreign language, at a ball game, a concert, etc., where's the harm...?

We are the greatest nation on earth and everybody knows this fact. So, let's invite everyone to the party and discuss peace and not invite soldiers to a battlefield and wage war.

If a group wishes to make their presence felt at a ball game and they wish to sing the National Anthem in a foreign language.....What bothers people seems to be...some kind of.....what????

I would love to see radical insurgents in the Middle East put down their weapons and sing our National Anthem. Let's begin thinking in terms of peace and security and bring everyone into the fold so no other mother/father would have the need to bury their dead son from war.

That's because English and French are their official national languages.
US doesn't have an official language, though it should be English, because it's the common denominator.
If we were to allow it to be sung in Spanish, we would also have to allow it to be sung in every other language which represents a significant minority in the US. By the time you got through all the languages, the ball game'd be over.

You can sing it in whatever language you wish. The native language of Quebec is French. So there are two regions with different languages. Here many languages are spoken everywhere but the national language is English and will stay that way. The guy who wrote it spoke English, the person that made it into a song spoke English, and the first to sing it spoke Enlgish. It should stay in English not to mention when you open the door to one language you open a Pandoras Box to many others. There are too many languages and cultures here. Its easiest to stick with English.

english is the national language and i agree that the national anthem should be in english, but all remember that this nation was and is built on the basis of immigration, just as the way we have embrassed different people and different cultures, why dont we let them show their patriotism to america in their own language?it is the same anthem just in a different language.any american deserves to sing the anthem in whatever language he/she wants because he/she (legal or illegal)has played a major role in making america what it is today.countries eg russia, england france, were not built on the basis of immigration so they have a right to keep the national anthem to one language.

Yeah. Let us flag burning communist immigrant loving pinko liberals sing the national anthem any way we want.

Give folks a break! So few even sing it any more; it's an honor to the country to be singing it... OK?

No.

Canada recognizes both French and English as national languages. We do not recognize Spanish as a national language.
